I just returned from San Francisco where they held the 10th GDC. Bottom line, the gaming world is going through major change.

What was most interesting to me were the traditional gamers being defensive about the growth of online social gaming. Defensiveness is the cousin of fear.....and fear is often brought about by change. The traditional gamers are scratching their heads at why a game such as Farmville could capture so much attention and have a more attractive business model, when for years traditional gamers have built elaborate console games that are expensive and have a hit or miss potential.

Another observation is that the gaming industry is truly global and pushing the envelope of virtual currency. My belief is that social gaming will become an important industry that will advance education and business training as welll as entertain millions.
